A-Plus & AAGEE – Time to Let Go

The video for lead single “Time to Let Go” depicts a scene at the sort of after-hours club where A-Plus and AAGEE might have frequented while developing material for Molly’s Dirty Water. The club’s atmosphere mirrors the track’s fusion of hip-hop and EDM elements: spliffs and break-dancers meet flashing lights and pounding music. As the party escalates, one unfortunate “party girl” pushes past her limits.
Souls of Mischief co-founder A-Plus and Compound 7 cohort AAGEE are proud to announce the release of their collaboration Molly’s Dirty Water. The hip-hop veterans cite their experiences partying at EDM clubs as inspiration for this experimental new project, which fuses a hip-hop attitude with the sonic vocabulary of EDM production styles. The blend of instrumentals and tracks with lyrics furthers the album’s EDM aesthetic. Labeling their character “Molly” as a drug reference would be an oversimplification: A-Plus says of their concept, “…some songs are more about a cool girl named Molly, others about a not so cool girl named Molly.”
While A-Plus and AAGEE are no strangers to experimentation — the Oakland, CA based musicians’ last release was the Red Hot Chili Peppers-inspired release Pepper Spray – the new album Molly’s Dirty Water pushes the boundaries of hip-hop even further. A-Plus describes, “I was free to try different things out both lyrically and production-wise. Once again, stuff that wouldn’t fly in the Hiero paradigm. I enjoyed the freedom to experiment, because any hip-hop purist backlash I’d normally get was kind of removed from the gate, due to the experimental nature of the music and subject matter…”
Molly’s Dirty Water will be available on January 14th, 2014 and is available for preorder today at Hieroglyphics Imperium:

“I’ve known Knxwledge since before the x. I remember a young dreaded beat-maker working the graveyard shift of a dead-end job in Philly hitting me through his AIM app on his Sidekick. He does what he wants how he wants and on the low, he’s one of the nastiest cats on the beats. We’ve had a few firsts together and I love dude like a brother.

Blu is as skilled as any rapper out today. I often think that folks en masse won’t fully appreciate what he contributes to the art of MCing till he’s through. I met him through an interview back in 2006. Fate and circumstance have crossed our paths several times since.

We were actually roommates for a small stretch of 2009. One day, inside a modest two-story home atop Mount Washitaw in Los Angeles, we were going through the few crate of records I owned. I pulled out the European bootleg to Bilal’s Love For Sale I bought at Poo Bah Records a few months prior.

“Daaamn, G! how much you want for this?”

I didn’t know what to answer. I loved that album too much to price it. Then a lightbulb went off, “I’ll trade you.”

“Trade me what?”

“A song. I’ll give you the record and you let me put out a song of yours.”

Blu laughed, gave me a pound and without a word took the record into his room downstairs next to the garage.”

Cole and more. “The beat transported me back to the time I was living in Mississippi with my grandmother and family,” says PHZ. “I felt that since I showed my loved to them lyrically, I should do the same visually. Various family members are shown throughout the video through photos as the song rides along. We’re close to Thanksgiving and this is my way of saying thanks for being a important factor in making me the person and artist I am today.” The Moment drops December 3. Amerie - Gotta Work (Trian Kayhatu refix)

We have just hit a little milestone of reaching that 5K mark on our DTW Facebook page, and it's great to know that the global community is responding positively to the cause.
As a way of saying thank you, we are extremely honored to present this Amerie refix by the master Trian Kayhatu, who recently hit us a few months back and is now officially part of the DTW roster.
Trian Kayhatu’s carnal appearance came into existence in Jakarta, Indonesia but as a youth later moved to Holland where he still resides. Music was already showing itself to be a big part of his character as a young boy when he started playing the music and was heavily influenced by his uncle, Indonesian jazz pianist Chris Kayhatu.
His truest passion and devotion lies within the realm of visual delights. His subsequent work during the 90's found a strong injection of influence from the world of the cinematic. Songs do not adequately describe TK's work, they stand more as “cinematic moods” each drawing the listener in.
Appreciation of TK's contributions to the music world include having a track chosen in 2001 for a compilation CD released by the prestigious Source Records. Finding him handpicked by the highly respected German DJ/producer Move D as a result of his fame on He has been featured in the hugely popular online music web magazine DE:BUG. In 2013, TK’s music got massive exposure through the L.A.-based label Soulection, and got played by the acclaimed DJ Giles Peterson on BBC Radio, and was recently featured on 22tracks, the Canadian label Beats For Change and the Australian radioshow of DJ Ennio Styles, to name a few.
Future plans and projects include an EP entitled 'SUTURE' and other projects on Darker Than Wax, a full-length album on Beats For Change, a feature film, and further collaborations with a myriad of online and real life artists. But for now, download this baby and soak in the vibes that is Trian Kayhatu. The future is now.
